A small car that lives in the corner of your screen. It drives itself until you take the wheel.

What is this?

Drift Buddy is a desktop driving game made to be left open while you do something else.

When you get bored or need a break, take the wheel. Click on another window and the car keeps driving on its own.

Leave it in the corner of your screen and watch it drift through ever-changing roads, with headlights at dusk and seasons passing by.

The road builds itself as you drive: roundabouts, forks, bridges, jumps, and it never repeats.

What's in it?

  • Nine vehicles. Three cars, three motorbikes and three more you have to earn. Each one drives differently.
  • A road that is never the same twice. Ramps that split off, banked bowls, chicanes, narrow squeezes and hills, dealt out in a different order every time, the road generates as you drive.
  • Somewhere to put your name on it. Change colours per vehicle and see your driving licence that keep everything you have done.
  • A countryside that reacts. Sheep and cows fly away when you clip them,  rocks and tractors are heavy enough to shove out of the way, kites get  loose and climb until you lose them, parked cars sit around with people  standing next to them. And decorations that only turn up in their own  season.
  • Day and night, and four seasons. A calendar that keeps moving whether you're driving or not. Take a look at the stars at night and see what changes between seasons.

How to play

Click on the game and drive to take control of the car. Click away from the game window to let the game drive itself.

  • Arrow keys or WASD to drive.
  • Touch buttons, if your screen has them.

Other controls:

  • ESC: Menu
  • R: Return to road
  • F: Show FPS
  • Double-click: Default camera
  • Click and drag: Camera movement
  • Mouse wheel: Camera zoom
  • Double click: Reset camera

Clean mode hides the HUD.

No levels, no timers, nothing to lose: the counter goes up and the road goes on. Close it and your progress saves itself.

Two honest things

There is no sound, and that is on purpose. It's built to sit open while you do something else, and something else usually has its own audio.

It is not a racing game. Nobody is chasing you and there is no finish line. It's a road, a car, and however long you feel like driving.

Have fun and drift a lot.
